How They Went to the Mountains to Eat Nuts
From Grimms' Fairy Tales, by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
This story comes from the collection of fairy tales gathered by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, first published in the early nineteenth century. The Grimms collected stories from the German countryside and wrote them down so they would not be lost. This tale is about a rooster and a hen who make a holiday trip and play a mischievous trick at the end. The story teaches that cleverness can get you out of trouble, but tricks may also make others angry. This text reflects its era; a few period terms have been modernised.
