Lullabies for Little Ones
From The Nursery Rhymes of England, collected by J. O. Halliwell-Phillipps
These lullabies were collected in the nineteenth century from England's nurseries, but many are much older. Parents and caregivers sang these gentle songs to calm babies and make them smile. Some have rocking rhythms, some have silly words, and some promise treats or trips to market. This text reflects its era; a few period terms have been modernised. These rhymes are worth a child's time because they connect today's families to generations of parents who sang the same words to their own little ones at bedtime.
