Overboard

Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea by Jules Verne · Episode 2 of 8

Jules Verne published this scientific adventure novel in 1870, imagining submarines decades before they became common. Professor Aronnax narrates his ten-month captivity aboard Captain Nemo's advanced underwater vessel. This text reflects its era; a few period naval terms have been modernised. Verne's story asks: what wonders lie beneath the ocean, and what happens when genius turns away from the world? Episode 2 follows the hunt for the mysterious sea creature to its shocking conclusion—the 'monster' is a machine, and the three survivors are about to meet its enigmatic commander.
