Hans in Luck
From Grimms' Fairy Tales, by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
Hans in Luck is one of the tales collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in their Grimms' Fairy Tales, first published in the early nineteenth century. The Grimm brothers gathered folk stories from oral tradition across German-speaking lands and preserved them for future generations. This story has been loved for nearly two hundred years because it teaches that happiness does not come from what we own, but from how we see the world. Hans believes every trade is good fortune, and in the end, letting go of everything makes him the happiest of all. This text reflects its era; a few period terms have been modernised.
